AI Replies

Replyt generates replies that sound like a real person wrote them — no AI filler phrases, no markdown, no promotional tone. Here's how to get the best results.

AI Voice

An AI Voice defines how the AI writes on your behalf. Each project can have multiple voices — useful if you want different tones for different types of threads (e.g., "technical" for dev communities, "casual" for startup communities).

Context field

The context field is the most important part of a persona. This is where you tell the AI who you are, what your product does, and any specific things to emphasize or avoid. Write it in first person, as if briefing a human copywriter:

"I'm the founder of Replyt, a tool that scans Reddit and HN for high-intent threads and helps founders reply at scale. We're an indie product, bootstrapped, priced at $49/mo. I want to sound helpful and genuine — never pushy. Mention Replyt only if it directly solves the problem in the thread. If the post is about something unrelated, just give useful advice without promoting anything."

Tone options

FounderAuthentic, direct, building-in-public vibe. Best for startup and entrepreneur communities.
HelpfulShare genuine value, informative, no self-promotion. Best for support-oriented threads.
CasualLike talking to a friend — approachable and conversational. Best for community subreddits.
TechnicalPrecise and factual, focused on specifics. Best for r/programming, HN, developer threads.

AI providers

Replyt supports three AI providers. You can use your own API key or rely on the server fallback (Gemini) if you haven't configured a key.

  • Gemini (default) — Google's Gemini 2.5 Flash. Fast, high quality. The server fallback always uses Gemini.
  • OpenAI — GPT-4o, GPT-4o mini, or other models you have access to.
  • Claude — Anthropic's Claude 3.5 Sonnet and newer models.
💡To use your own API key, go to Settings → Account and add your key. It's encrypted before storage and never logged. If you don't add a key, Replyt uses its own Gemini key on the server — this works fine for most users.

Generating a reply

Open any thread from your Threads page and click Generate reply. The AI reads the post title and body (up to 600 chars), your AI Voice context, your project description, and generates a 2–4 sentence reply.

What makes a good AI reply

The prompt instructs the AI to follow strict rules so replies sound human:

  • No markdown — no asterisks, bold, italic, or bullet points
  • No AI filler phrases ("Absolutely!", "Great question!", "I totally understand")
  • No em-dashes, no URLs or domain names in the reply text
  • Doesn't start with "I" or filler words like "So", "Well", "Honestly"
  • Varies sentence structure — no formulaic openers
  • Mentions your product only if it naturally fits the thread

Language detection

If the post appears to be in a non-English language (detected via non-ASCII characters or common words), the AI replies in the same language automatically. No configuration needed.

Posting a reply

After generating, you have two options to post:

  • Copy & open Reddit — copies the reply to your clipboard and opens the original Reddit thread in a new tab. Paste the reply into the comment box and submit. Replyt marks the mention as "Replied" automatically.
  • + Approve & Post — adds the reply to your queue for posting via the Chrome Extension. Useful when you want to batch several replies and post them one by one without switching tabs manually.
Replyt doesn't post directly to Reddit. You copy the reply and post it yourself. This is intentional — auto-posting gets accounts banned. Manual posting keeps you in control.

Reply limits

Limits reset on the 1st of each month. If you're close to the limit, you can purchase a one-time add-on pack (+50 replies for $9) from the Billing page.

Approve & Post queue

The + Approve & Post button sends a reply to your project's queue. From there, the Replyt Chrome Extension reads the queue and lets you post each reply with one click — directly into the Reddit comment box, without copy-pasting.

See the Chrome Extension docs for full setup instructions.
